degradation = break down
potassium ion channels within hair follicles breakdown causing baldness.

They seem to imply that the cause of/or one cause of baldness is due to the breakdown/degradation of potassium ion channels in hair follicles which reults in DHT having negative effects on hair follicles/stem cells.
Potassium ion channels are used for communication.
