Androgen signalling prevents hair cell differentiation (Hair Loss Research & Clinical Trials)

» » Cotserellis is right. The reason we go bald is because androgens result
» in
» » inhibition of stem cell differentiation into progenitor cells.
» » Specifically, Wnt is being inhibited which is important in signalling
» cells
» » to make that transition.
» »
» » I like Replicel's approach of bypassing the entire problem by replacing
» the
» » existing DP cells with those from the back of the head which are
» resistant
» » to this disruption. If indeed dermal sheath cup cells can migrate &
» » incorporate themselves into the surrounding hair follicles, they can
» » restart hair cycling. Certainly an excellent (preventative) treatment
» for
» » those who are just beginning to lose their hair. Almost like a
» » vaccination. Perhaps every 5 years, the person would need a booster
» shot
» » if these cells migrate away from the hair.
» »
»
» Not quite. Read Jahoda's response to McElwee's paper. What Jahoda basically
» says is that there are changes in the physiology of balding skin that
» prevent dermal papilla cells from integrating with extant hair follicles,
» because in balding skin, the cells tend to move out of the HF. McElwee only
» demonstrated it in rat footpads I believe. Furthermore it hasn't been
» demonstrated that injected DP/DSC cells can induce follicle formation in
» balding skin. They've done it on mice, done it on Amanda Reynolds'
» arm, but balding skin is a different story. So I would not yet become very
» optimistic. But we'll find out soon.
»
»
» As for Cotsarelis, their main pathway is by mimicking Wnt by pushing
» Lithium into wounded skin. One way the Follica patent suggested to get
» around the androgen problem, and I believe this is what they'll pursue
» eventually, is they're going to try to birth the neogenic hairs in
» estrogen. Basically try to grow female-type hairs on the head. That way
» they won't be androgen sensitive.
»
»
» However just putting Wnt into your skin won't do it at all. That idea has
» been discarded.

The idea has been "discarded" by who? By you? So what if you discarded the idea.

Histogen hasn't discarded the idea and after one year they produced a 73% increase in hair counts which increased coverage dramatically, PLUS they also increased the diameter to the already existing intermediate hairs which added to more coverage as well.
