I had multiple 'Flaps', Scalp Reductions & Strip Excision procedures. All of which left me with an extremely scarred scalp, very little growth, and a severely depleted donor area. There were plugs and pits at the frontal hairline.

3,000 body hair were placed to reconstruct my frontal hairline and extend back to the mid scalp.

Despite severe scarring, there was good yield and a very pleasing result.

These procedures were performed by Dr Ray Woods. The AFTER videos were taken by me.

This is what Dr.Woods said regarding my case:

"I have made posts regarding this dating back a few years.

Leg hair will not give density.

At best it will only be useful as a fine touch up.

There was heated discussion regarding this because I was seen as obstructing 'progress'

I only challenge what I regard as BS.

And I always have given my reasons. check the archives

I only hope that pubic and armpit hair harvesting ceases and I have worked hard to stop it.

At best it will provide a few smelly hair ( due to Apocrine glands attached to 'wet zone' follicles).

At worst, patients will be left with 'hydradenitis suppurativa'
This is a horrid chronic condition which must never be underestimated .

The issue is leg hair, and the potential dangers of armpit and pubic harvesting..

My comments are based on evidence , experience and general medical knowledge and concerns.

What I say may be inconvienient for certain people involved in certain activities, but I only say it in the interests of public education and awareness in an industry which has caused such incredible harm to so many.

So, what I am referring to is quite specific, i.e. leg hair and 'wet zone' harvesting.

Otherwise, body hair is a great resourse, as long as it is not squandered and trashed in overzealous megasessions....and evidence of that is ever mounting, but is paradoxically under reported."

Before I tell you of my experience let me just say unequivocally that I shot all the AFTER video myself in the harshest conditions under the brightest light possible and without any enhancing whatsoever. By the way, I’m running my own fingers through my hair. The BEFORE video was shot by Dr. Woods.

I'm extremely pleased with the results and I'm looking forward to perhaps another three operations which will fill in the areas and make it a lot denser.

Seven months ago, I flew back to Australia from the US to have some more work done. This time I was going to have four operations.

The hair growth from my previous surgery with Dr. Woods was very good. Because I see myself everyday, it’s difficult to be truly aware of the progress. Dr. Woods showed me the before video from one year ago and I was amazed. Considering I almost had next to nothing on my scalp, I was overwhelmed with the results. I couldn't believe the guy in the video was me.

This time around, Dr. Woods was really excited about this new contraption that he acquired. One thing I really admire about him is that he's always looking for ways to make the operation as comfortable and as painless as possible. This new contraption was for the purpose of making the injections of anesthetic into my chest from where he was to get the hair positively painless and it worked.

For the first operation, I got to see the entire procedure on an amazing giant, high-definition widescreen digital television. This thing was absolutely amazing.

I've always marveled at how patient he is. The procedure of extracting the chest hair to replant onto my scalp was a very long one. I asked him why it was taking so long. He told me that he was looking for the absolute healthiest hair follicles on my chest and abdomen. He wanted the thickest and healthiest hair possible.

He was so meticulous as to where he was placing the new hair on my scalp for the second part of the operation. I have to admit, that this time around I felt a little bit more pain especially towards the front of my scalp. He'd always keep checking in with me to make sure I was okay. Before I knew it, the operation was over.

I got quite a bit of swelling on my forehead which eventually went down within a few days. I also got few pimples on my chest too but very minor. I’m still getting the occasional one or two.

The rest of the operations were very long (I mean really long!) and Dr. Woods paid the same meticulous attention to detail I was used to. This time around he offered me the choice of watching a few movies during the procedure.

Eventually, I fell asleep during the procedure and he had to wake me up!

It's now seven months later. The growth, like before, as you can see, has been very fast. I did experience some shedding towards the back of my scalp but the hair grew back and then some.

I would say that about 65% to 70% of the implanted follicles stayed intact shortly after the operations. The rest are starting to come through now. He told me that chest hair takes a little longer to grow and I'm fortunate to have very thick and long chest hair anyway. I'm looking forward to the results several more months down the track.

I'm not getting anything for writing this. I was butchered by my previous surgeon and nobody but nobody could possibly hold a candle to what Dr. Woods is like as a surgeon, in his professionalism and as a person. I went to just about every surgeon in the US to see if they could correct the mess that the butchers left me with and all of them told me they couldn't do anything. One of them prescribed Propecia which I refused to take.

I travel a lot throughout the US but if you all have any questions please feel free to ask me and I'll do everything I can to answer.

Dr. Woods told me that I might not need any other procedures though I still have more body hair should that be the case. He did say that if I were to have any more operations that I should definitely wait at least a year to let my scalp settle. A lot different to the butcher who thought it would be okay to have four scalp reductions, a Frechet flap and four micrograft operations in like 10 months!
