Helmethair: leg, armpit BHT with Dr. Umar. ~7900 grafts 4.5 month update
Dr. Umar posted the following update of my case:
"This case is made even more pertinent by recent debate concerning the place of leg, armpit and pubic hair in BHT. My experience using the SFET procedure in BHT reveals that leg hair is a veritable resource in BHT and transections do not present a problem. No specific problems have been encountered with the use of armpit or pubic hair either. The right skill level and a discriminating procedure appears to be key.
ONLY leg, thigh, armpit and pubic areas (97%) were harvested for the purpose of this bald crown transplant
“HelmetHair” a forum participant underwent ~7900 BHT to the crown at my clinic. He had introduced his case shortly after surgery here:

6 weeks ago he sent a 4.5 month photo update of his crown. Thus the “after” were taken by helmethair.
Type of surgery: BHT
Number of grafts: ~7900 to the crown only
Donor: EXCLUSIVELY (97%) THE LEGS, THIGHS ARMPITS AND PUBIC AREA
Donor hair quality: Thin (Legs and thighs). Average (Armpits and pubic areas)
CROWN BEFORE
THUS FAR AT 4.5 MONTHS

LEG HAIR BEFORE

It so happens that in many individuals the only significant source of body hair
occurs in the legs, thighs, underarms and pubic areas. Helmethair is one such
individual.
Of the entire 7900 grafts transferred to the crown,
a vast majority (6358) were from the legs and thighs. As the following photos
should demonstrate, the hair quality in these areas is not that
robust.
From my experience transplanting leg and thigh hair
in a diverse selection of individuals, the notion that leg hair can not hold its
own in bald areas is misleading, false, and at best
superstitious.
HELMETHAIR LEG & THIGH HAIR
CHARACTERISTICS:
Leg

Final graft tally based on donor source at the close of surgery:
Thigh
& legs = 6358
Chest & abd = 238
Armpit = 574
Pubic = 742"
Crown before:

Isolated armpit and pubic implantation (are within white lines)

Crown 6 months later

The armpit soon after harvestation

As Dr. Umar said, in my case I have relatively few chest hairs and these were
used in both of my procedures, however there are simply not enough of them as
you can see in my chest photos (follow link below.) If I had a large number of
chest/back/torso hair, Dr. Umar would no doubt have exploited those areas as he
has for others with very impressive results.
I recently cut my hair down
without a guard to see how the stubble would look should I decide on that as a
permanent haircut and to help me judge my options. Therefore it will be awhile
before I have some new photos. It is clear to me watching it regrow that the
hair is still behaving like body hair in that it has much longer growing and
resting phases compared to scalp hair, so some of the hairs grow right back and
some stay at rest. I have heard that over time body hair in the scalp takes on
the regrowth characteristics of scalp hair.
In my case, the unfortunate
fact is I have very fine hair, so that should be taken into account as well. All
things considered, the growth in the crown at only 4.5 months is quite a step
forward.
