Naturalman: 4000 non-robust BHT 1 Year Update

Dr. Umar said:
"Naturalman is a repair case. He has had his repair work done previously by Dr Woods in which scalp, chest and abdominal hair were used. Naturalman was pleased with the improvement derived from these procedures.
He approached me about a year ago for a continuation of his repair journey. At this point he had only non robust body hair (legs, thighs and forearms) as well as armpit and pubic hair donor left. He had still a pluggy hair line, a ravaged head donor area and an empty crown studded with large plugs.
Non robust body hair (naturalman)

To give his non robust body hair a fighting chance minoxidil was used for a period of months preceding his surgeries. For more on minoxidil use in natural man, check:

Naturalman has had 2 surgeries by me. The first surgery was 12 months ago that addressed the crown, midscalp, and donor scar. The second surgery was 9 months ago, that largely addressed the hair line and ravaged donor area.
The first surgery was highlighted here:

About 1300 non robust forearm hair was used to feather the hair line.

Right side soon after SFET BHT:

Right side at 9 months after SFET/BHT:

About 3000 grafts were applied to the crown. These grafts are largely non robust leg thigh and forearm hair. About 150 grafts were derived from the extracted plugs while a negligible number came from the chest
Some beneficial modifications have been made to SFET/BHT protocol with regards to non robust hair BHT since naturalman’s 1st procedure of 12 months ago.

Crown at 12 months

This area was repaired using hair from the legs (1277grafts) as well as a mixture of armpits and pubic areas (896). Few residual chest hair were thrown in the mix.

Donor area at 9 months after SFET/BHT:

Naturalman's case has been a good study and I thank him for his steadfastness with all follow-up requests.
Few observations worth reporting from following the outcome of SFET/BHT using non robust hair in naturalman:
1. The yield and growth has not been a problem. I estimate at least 80% at this point.
2. The transplanted non robust hair gains significantly in length, however, the caliber at 9 and 12 months of followup has remained the same. This carries significance in the impact of the cosmetic outcome becuse the hair volume is significantly influenced by this factor. In naturalman, the repair objective has been achieved using this hair. All areas of bare skin have achieved a dusting effect at the least, while the impact in the hair line has been most significant.
The ravaged donor area was transplanted with 1 robust hair for every 1.5 non robust hair. Consequently this may not be reflective of non robust hair BHT alone.
3. Non robust hair can be slow in coming in especially in the crown area. In Naturalman, the 8-9 month mark appeared to have been very crucial.
In summary, at 9 and 12 months of follow-up, non robust BHT in naturalman has yielded very well. The volume however remains the main issue because of unaltered hair caliber. Nevertheles, it has proved useful especially in the hairline, and has improved overall appearance to the extent that renders non robust body hair a valuable resource in this instance.
Naturalman continues to register improvement with each followup. We hope to update on his progress in another 6 and 12 months."
I am 58 years old and thanks to Dr. Umar completing the repair work, I so desperetely needed, I haven't had to wear a hat in public for 6 months now. Due to the thin (in diameter) of my body hair, the overall look is a more difused look, especially if I cut my hair short. (At least I have the choice now). Before, I had to leave it long to cover the plugs and bare spots that had no hair at all. If I had some of the thick body hair some of you have, the results would be even more dramatic in the back and crown areas. The body hair taken from various parts of my body, and then implanted, looks no different than normal scalp hair. This is what I had hoped for when I first talked to Dr. Umar, a little over a year ago. I have been coming to Dr. Umar's office every month after surgery for him to take pictures, and he still notices improvement, even after all this time.
