HP - Nape Hair FUE with Dr. Umar - 2 Months
Dr. Umar stated the following regarding my case:
"The subject of total harvesting of a particular area of the scalp and its vicinity does come up during consultations. Of relevance to this discussion is the request by Flap hair surgery patients with misdirected flap hair to have near total removal of the flap hair.
Our case in example is patient HP a dark skinned Asian (Type 5 skin) who requested that his nape hair be harvested totally. We considered this option viable in his NW 4 state given his age and the fact that his nape hair has only gotten thicker and denser (by his account) with passing time. Additionally, his overall donor area was rather sparse; hence the additional grafts derived form the nape of the neck contributed significantly to the 3000 graft goal in his surgery.
In this procedure, we harvested nearly all visible hair in the nape area. A total of ~740 grafts were derived.
Nape soon after ~740 extractions:
Nape at 2 weeks after ~740 extractions.

Nape at 2 months after ~740 extractions

Nape at 2 months after ~740 extractions (close up)

Please note the amount of hair in the area that is subject to extraction after only 2 months of extractions.
Also not the uneventful healing at the extraction sites.
Thus:
1. In carefully selected patients (right age relative to degree of hair loss and history), the nape is a veritable donor source.
2. Depending on extraction methodology, this may be relevant in scalp situations that call for near total harvesting of a particular area. An example: selected cases of misdirected flap hair
