2guard - Diffuse, thinking about getting FUE
Wednesday, February 21. 2007
Dear Doctor,
I'm 30 and noticed loss about 4 years ago. I've been on fin for 3 years and minox for 2. I have diffuse loss, my hairline hasn't changed at all. My hair is basically all around thinner on top in the MPB pattern. My hairloss hasn't changed in that time. I think I caught it fairly early since I've always had fine hair, so even a little loss was easy to see.
I've gone from shaving it down to a 2 guard to growing out 3-4 inches. It looks ok grown out in a "comb-forward" style, but it takes forever to style that way. Plus, I'm sick of checking the weather report to see how bad the wind will be for the day. I can't style my hairline up at all.
GOALS
I'm thinking about getting 1500 fue done, with 1000 in the top front, and 500 on the crown area. I've done a ton of reading and I'm aware there is a possibility of shock-loss, but that it should grow back.
I'm not looking for super thick density actually. I actually don't even care if I can't spike it up. I do however, want to be able to grow it out and comb it forward. I can pull it off now, as that's how I had it last year, but I had to putty and hairspray the crap out of it. Even then there's not much you can do about strong wind or other factors.
Questions:
1. Based on the pics, am I a good candidate for hair transplant?
2. How many grafts will I need to accomplish my goals?
3. Does it matter whether I go for FUE or STRIP ? Is there a technique that is particularly suited for my case?
4. Do I have to worry about permanent shock loss since I still have a good amount of my own hair ?
5. I am of asian descent. I've heard that FUE scarring may be worse for Asians, is that true? Have you treated any patients who are asians? Did they report more scarring than other patients?
6. What would be the cost, under FUE and STRIP?
7. Do you need to shave my donor and recipient site in order to perform the procedure?
Thanks.
Below are some of my pics. My hair is about 1 inch long in those pictures, no flash, bright bathroom lights, thanks.
