Just Started Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) 2.5mg Daily (Drugs & Medications)

I've finally received my batch of generic avodart. On Dec. 4, '08 I started Dutasteride 2.5mg daily (5 caps). I had a whole line of treatments to take with it including gingko biloba, vitamins, and all sworts of other goodies. However, I delayed everything else so that if I get any results, good or bad, I would know where they came from.

So far my erections have been super better since the second day. I know this for a fact. Don't notice any other side effects as of yet. I plan on taking 2.5mg daily for atleast 2 week and then drop to 0.5mg daily with an addition of 2.5mg finasteride. Why? Because 2.5mg of dutasteride have been shown in the clinical trials to provide the best effects stopping 98% of DHT. However, 2.5mg of dut daily wil burn a whole in your pocket. TOO EXPENSIVE. So, being that finasteride and dutasteride share similar properties in make-up, taking 2.5mg of fin with 0.5mg of dutasteride will save me tons of money and provide better results than 0.5 mg of dut alone.

If side effects are noted then I will drop 2.5mg to 0.5mg+fin. If side effects are still noted, then I will drop to just 0.5mg of dut. However, I will take into consideration that dut hair growth are usualy shown post 1 yr mark. Therefore, I will not stop because of shedding or anything else.

Will eventually add to my regime:

Nioxin nightly
Reg. Shampoo mornings
5% minox (nightly only)
Multi-vitamins
Biotin
Saw Pametto
Gingko Biloba

Will keep everyone posted very frequently.

By the way... I will also be getting a hair transplant with dr Alvi Armani (FUE) in March of 2009. And will continue with the above regime thereafter.

Feel Free to ask any questions.

No they're not. Finasteride inhibits type II and dut inhibits type I AND II. Which makes it similar. Not the Same. And that's what I said... they are SIMILAR. Thanks for the clarification I should have been more specific.

I also want to add something else. At first I thought it was too early in the game to make the speculation, but it's too much of a coincidence especially 2 times a day.

Today is the 3rd day on dut. yesterday and today I had intercourse with my girlfriend twice each day. Not only were the erections much harder, but I also noticed that 3 out of the 4 times I came, I shot my cum a few feet ahead. Way over and passed my girl's head (military style).

Pardon me if this sounds too vulgar but I didn't know of any other way of putting it.

is this the peak and a sudden downfall afterwards? we'll find out...

Danger from Dut Already??

I don't know if this is related to my dut as I have never heard of anyone make such claims from the use of dut as what i'm claiming.

since yeesterday my coordination is pretty much f*cked. Considering that i have an excellent eye and great coordination and have a 2 yr degree in architectural drafting, this is taking a toll on me. For example, i'll try to put a spoon of sugar in my cup but i'll tip it over and hit the rim of the cup and the sugar is everywhere. happened more than twice. my car has gps and when i attempt to touch the screen i have to do it slowly to make sure i dont touch the wrong part/area.

has anyone else experienced anything like this from dut? or anything like this without dut form out of the blue one day?

stay tuned...(crossed fingers)......

with 2.5mg a day you are almost sure to have some issues : brain fog, less motivation, and of course a lot less libido.
this will happen in a few days or weeks, even though the first days might seem like a rollercoster ride of libido.

in addition, your regimen does nothing against the issue of testosterone binding direclty to the androgen receptors, which does also trigger some hairloss, besides what DHT does. In fact, this much DUT raises testosterone by 30% or even more, which might explain the initial libido jump.

Since you seem to be the kind of guy not too scared by side effects, I'd suggest adding topical flutamide to your regimen. you don't need to use a lot of it and mostly at the hairline. You can then reduce your dut amount to 0.5mg a day. this combo will get you in a much better position hair-wise than a lot of DUT alone, and with less side effects overall.

Topical flutamide can potentailly produce the same type of strong androgenic side effects like DUT, but since it is used topically in very small amounts and also has a very short half life of about 7 hours in blood, you can "manage" the side effects a lot easier than using oral DUT with its long- serum half life.

El Dut I've read may of your posts on forums and appreciate your input.

If I reduce to 0.5mg and add finasteride, will that make differene in terms of side effects and/or results?

I never heard of Topical Flutamide. I have, however, had great results with 5% minox. (i use up a bottle in 2 weeks and less) but i can't stand the ess it leaves behind. Is Flutamide just as messy?

Fluridil, a rationally designed topical agent for androgenetic alopecia: first clinical experience.

Sovak M, Seligson AL, Kucerova R, Bienova M, Hajduch M, Bucek M.

Radiology Research, University of California, San Diego, California, USA. msovak@ucsd.edu

BACKGROUND:
Fluridil, a novel topical antiandrogen, suppresses the human androgen receptor. While highly hydrophobic and hydrolytically degradable, it is systemically nonresorbable. In animals, fluridil demonstrated high local and general tolerance.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a topical anti- androgen, fluridil, in male androgenetic alopecia.

METHODS:
In 20 men, for 21 days, occlusive forearm patches with 2, 4, and 6% fluridil, isopropanol, and/or vaseline were applied. In 43 men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA), Norwood grade II-Va, 2% fluridil was evaluated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study after 3 months clinically by phototrichograms, hematology, and blood chemistry including analysis for fluridil, and at 9 months by phototrichograms.

RESULTS:
Neither fluridil nor isopropanol showed sensitization/irritation potential, unlike vaseline. In all AGA subjects, baseline anagen/telogen counts were equal. After 3 months, the average anagen percentage did not change in placebo subjects, but increased in fluridil subjects from 76% to 85%, and at 9 months to 87%. In former placebo subjects, fluridil increased the anagen percentage after 6 months from 76% to 85%. Sexual functions, libido, hematology, and blood chemistry values were normal throughout, except that at 3 months, in the spring, serum testosterone increased within the normal range equally in placebo and fluridil groups. No fluridil or its decomposition product, BP-34, was detectable in the serum at 0, 3, or 90 days.

CONCLUSION:
Topical fluridil is nonirritating, nonsensitizing, nonresorbable, devoid of systemic activity, and anagen promoting after daily use in most AGA males.

Just Started Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) 2.5mg Daily

just to clear some confusion, we have Fluridil and Flutamide..two completely different drugs but both work for hairloos.

Flurdil, as per the study report pasted, is a molecule that has been developped to inhibit androgen recpetors and have no side effects at all.
I use it and it brings some benefits to my combo, without adding side effects.

Flutamide, is a prostate cancer drug that has been "hijacked" for hairloss application because it works by blocking the androgen receptor. It works like RU58841 but for a fraction of the cost.I also use this, and RU.

Adding finasteride to DUT makes no sense, DUT at 0.5mg daily alredy reduces DHT a lot more than FIN at 1mg daily.

Minox is a growth promoter that will not really stop hairloss in the long term because it does not address the androgenic issues of androgenic alopecia.
I never used it myself.

I use a combo of oral DUT 3 times a week, topical fluridil and topical RU58841/flutamide

Update:

Today it was hard for me to get out of bed. But I went to crash again in the evening and even though the sleep was enough-I just didn't feel like getting up.

Yesterday after reading come of your comments I dropped to 0.5mg and will not be taking fin with it.

Today and yesterday night I had constant trouble remembering things, like a word would be on the tip of my tongue but just can't get it out. I would make note to myself for later and totally forget about it. When I read I'm not focused.

A quick question for those who are well informed or experienced users of dutateride... Is it possible for Dutasteride to cause depression? Can dut have someone think negative or be pesimistic?

Still researching on the other products and trying to learn where and how to get them, how to use them and monthly cost.

Chime in guys, better you read it before you use it.

El Dut,

Which is more powerful, fluridil or flutamide?

Fluridil (Eucapil) states it has no sides, but I'm assuming if you stop you'll lose what you gained? And how much does it cost for a month's supply?

I sent an online doc a question a long time ago (forgot the damn email and website address), for $5, and asked if it was okay to take enerdisia with dutasteride and he replied no it's not okay (which made no sence to me). Will it be safe to take fluradil/flutamide with enerdisia?

These treatments become so exensive! Especially when your taking body building supplements too Grrr...!

Dutasteride 0.5mg + minox 5% Update

It is now two weeks since starting dutasteride. Initially I started off with 2.5mg daily for the first week and dropped to 0.5mg. And added minox 5 % last nigh (been off it for a few months).

On 2.5mg the sides were pretty bad (read previous posts).

Today is the first day I noticed my hair coming out so litle I can actually count them in the shower (15-20?). Previous to dut my hair would come out so much I had to remove my hair from the drain, make a ball of it and toss it in the garbage. If I would guess, it was probably about 200 hair a day. When waking in the morning my pillow and t-shirt would be covered with my hair.

It's now decreasing dramatically. I will note however that I have been extremely sleepy and drowsy throughout the day. Not sure if this is a side effect from dut or not. I'll increase my coffee from 3 cups to 5 cups a day.

Dutasteride 0.5mg + minox 5% Update

For the first time in a long time I grabbed a mirror, put aside my fears, went to the washroom and took a good look at my crown. It's horrible. It's about the size of a softball and the only coverage I'm getting on it is combing my hair back from the top of my head to cover it a little. Had no idea it was that bad. Really depressing. :-(

Today my hair shedding seemed to have come to a halt. Washed my hair and no hair came out except maybe 5-10 strands.

I really hope dut + minox kicks in quick and brings my crown back. If not I will opt for a future hair transplant for my vertex and crown.

No sexual sides noted thus far from dut. I do feel a little bit "out of touch" lately. I feel like I'm not as outgoing, outspoken, or energetic a I should be. Feel sleepy all day long. Not sure if that's a Dut side effect.

Does Dutasteride cause tiredness?

Does anybody know if dutasteride causes one to be constantly tired/lazy, out of energy, drowsy at times? I even have trouble getting out of bed after many hour of sleep.

I've searched the internet for these side effects of dutasteride but nothing came up. Past few consequtive days I've been feeling these tiredness feelings. Hurting my work.

Thanks, you're always helpful.

Funny you mentioned dizziness because I get light headed when I'm brushing my teeth in the morning. Dizziness - lightheaded, samething I believe.

Do you know whether or not these effects ware off after a while? Is there anything to counter attack these side effects? Maybe I should drop from 0.5mg daily to 0.5 mg eod?

Does Dutasteride cause tiredness?

According to Mayo clinic, these symptoms may go away during treatment as the body gets adjusted to the medicine.

If they persist you need to consult your doctor who may either stop the medication or adjust the dose.

Does Dutasteride cause tiredness?

After taking a few days off dut I returned and stayed on 0.5mg daily. I believe the mere fact of taking 2.5mg in the begining and then 0.5mg without a break took a tole on my body. Now I'm 100% normal at my daily dosage of 0.5mg. Even this will be decreased to every other day after 7-8 months because of the relatively long life of dut in the body. Everyday for ever is meaningless.

I'm curious as to wether or not dutasteride, minoxidil, and or other medications are permitted in the Canadian Forces; especially being that most of us buy meds without prescription. If anyone has an idea feel free to give your input. THat includes you too Hairsite :-D

It is common place to have a higher libido when first starting finasteride or dutasteride. You will eventually have a reverse feedback loop and your sex drive will start to decrease around the 3 month mark.

elaborate on why you're going to decrease your dosage to every other day?.

Bryan, correct me if I'm wrong in for the following reasons...
"The speed by which drugs are eliminated from the body are measured by a value which is called “half-life”. The half-life of finasteride is six to eight hours whereas for dutasteride it is four to five weeks, which means that when one stops taking dutasteride, it will take several months before the drug is out of the system. When blood DHT was measured in these patients 12 weeks after stopping the medication, the finasteride treated patients had a normal DHT level while the dutasteride 0.5 still showed a 10% decrease and the dutasteride 2.5 mg treated patients still had significantly lowered DHT levels.

"Side effects of dutasteride which have been reported in the treatment of prostatic enlargement are 1) breast tenderness and enlargement, and 2) reduced sperm counts. In a separate study of 28 patients treated with dutasteride 0.5 mg daily there was a significant decrease in sperm count at 26 weeks of treatment. That study states that it is difficult to determine the significance of these sperm count abnormalities and that the reports vary as to what sperm counts are required for fertility. It is quite concerning that two of the 28 patients in the study had a greater than 90% decrease in sperm count while taking the medication and 24 weeks after stopping the drug, they still had a 70% reduction in sperm count. Although the study did not give figures on the percentage of patients that developed sperm count abnormalities, this side effect, in my opinion, is worrisome especially since we commonly treat young men for male pattern hair loss. It should be noted that finasteride 1 mg (Propecia) was shown in a separate study to have no effect on sperm count."

Every other day becaus A) It stays in your body for an extremely long time as explained above and B) It can vastly decreases sperm count. Hopefully every other day dosages of 0.5mg will not be as bad.

It is common place to have a higher libido when first starting finasteride
or dutasteride. You will eventually have a reverse feedback loop and your
sex drive will start to decrease around the 3 month mark.

I've contimplated on this incase I was effected by this noted sife effect. I was considering, if necessary, using other supliments/meds to counter attack the side efffect. Thus increasing sperm count and libido.

By the way, I used to take 1.25 to 2.5 mgs daily with no sexual side effects whatsoever. Took it straight for about 18-24 months, then skipped days... eventually stopped altogether.

As I have mentioned in many of the earlier posts, side effects like loss of libido is more of a ' nocebo' phenomenon rather than a real side effect.

Does Dutasteride cause tiredness?

The terminal elimination half-life of dutasteride is about 5 weeks at steady state (average 40 ng/ml). Following daily dosing of 0.5 mg, 65% of steady-state concentration is achieved after 1 month and approximately 90% after 3 months. Steady-state serum and semen concentrations are achieved at about 6 months. On average, semen concentrations are 11.5% of serum dutasteride concentrations in healthy patients at 1 year. Because of the long half-life of dutasteride, serum concentrations remain detectable (> 0.1 ng/ml) for up to 4 to 6 months after stopping therapy.

I can understand that you'd want to use a lower dose to reduce the possibility and/or severity of side effects, but I still don't understand your point "A" above. Why would you want to use it every other day, just because it stays in the body for a long time? What do you think is the connection between those two statements?

FYI, the amount of dutasteride in your blood is directly proportional to the dose that you take. If you cut your dose in half by taking it only every other day, you will cut the amount in your blood in half (actually, there will be a little LESS than half in your blood, because of dutasteride's non-linear elimination characteristics).

If the dut stays in the blood for such a long time, wouldn't it be almost redundant to take it everyday if you still have just about the same dosage in your blood as the day before?

» redundant to take it everyday if you still have just about the same dosage
» in your blood as the day before?

No, because like I said before, the level in your blood is directly proportional to the dose that you take. That's because the drug BUILDS-UP over a period of time. The half-life of dutasteride is irrelevant in this specific context.

If you decide to take two capsules a day, you will have TWO TIMES as much in your blood, once steady-state is achieved. If you decide to take three capsules a day, you will have THREE TIMES as much in your blood, once steady-state is achieved. If you take four capsules a day, you will have FOUR TIMES as much in your blood, and so on and so on.

Dutasteride Update...Shed has Begun

TO keep those interested posted...

WOW, AND THE SHED HAS BEGUN. It's more than I've ever experienced because in a matter of a few days my entire scalp from hairline to crown has thinned drastically. I can only imagine it will get worse; but optimistic it will all grow back thicket stronger and in abundance. I'm risking it and will hang in there regardless.

I've been forced to cutmy hair short (always had it long or medium length) beause long hair and thinned out looks awful. Atleast short and dry will some what illusion it of a thicker head.

Dutasteride Update...Shed has Begun

Other than the shed I'm noticing, I do not experience any sides at the moment.

The lazy zombie-like feelings no longer exist. No dizziness and as far as I'm concerned no memory impact (unless I'm not aware of it), and my libido is as good as ever. My ejaculations are super duper strong.

If there is anything else I can take in combo with dut besides minox I'm all for it. Minox is shytmessy. Can't stand the mess from it at all. I haven't used any of it for over a week.

Re-Note: My hair on my head from hair line to crown has thinned drastically to a point where I convince my self that I don't care; cause if I did it would cause me to stop dut and get really become stressed/depressed over it.

Most upsetting times are when we see photos of our selves not too long ago and say that we'd do anything to have our hair back. Simply amazing how the hair on our heads changes the appearance of our entire face.

Yes dave. I think out of all the treatments I've ever used, minox gave the best results. In sum, it thickened and grew back hair that were very noticable. It's a shame I can't tolerate the mess from it. Keep in mind I would use 4ml twice a day all over my scalp.

Minox 5%

Just Started Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) 2.5mg Daily

One month and 3 days now...

I notice these past 2 or 3 days I am forgetting a lot of things. I would forget important phone calls I was supposed to make, where my keys are, phone numbers, important self-notes, etc. etc. all very frequently.

I have not come across any resources showing it can effect the memory. Although I am aware it can possibly cause a foggy mind. I really don't know what the heck a foggy mind is- I guess I would know if I experienced it. So I will cross that out.

Will continue as usual, hoping either side effect noted above will either subside, or confirm. My mind is not something I want to tamper with.

» I've finally received my batch of generic avodart. On Dec. 4, '08 I
» started Dutasteride 2.5mg daily (5 caps). I had a whole line of treatments
» to take with it including gingko biloba, vitamins, and all sworts of other
» goodies. However, I delayed everything else so that if I get any results,
» good or bad, I would know where they came from.
»
» So far my erections have been super better since the second day. I know
» this for a fact. Don't notice any other side effects as of yet. I plan on
» taking 2.5mg daily for atleast 2 week and then drop to 0.5mg daily with an
» addition of 2.5mg finasteride. Why? Because 2.5mg of dutasteride have been
» shown in the clinical trials to provide the best effects stopping 98% of
» DHT. However, 2.5mg of dut daily wil burn a whole in your pocket. TOO
» EXPENSIVE. So, being that finasteride and dutasteride share similar
» properties in make-up, taking 2.5mg of fin with 0.5mg of dutasteride will
» save me tons of money and provide better results than 0.5 mg of dut alone.
»
» If side effects are noted then I will drop 2.5mg to 0.5mg+fin. If side
» effects are still noted, then I will drop to just 0.5mg of dut. However, I
» will take into consideration that dut hair growth are usualy shown post 1
» yr mark. Therefore, I will not stop because of shedding or anything else.
»
» Will eventually add to my regime:
»
» Nioxin nightly
» Reg. Shampoo mornings
» 5% minox (nightly only)
» Multi-vitamins
» Biotin
» Saw Pametto
» Gingko Biloba
»
» Will keep everyone posted very frequently.
»
» By the way... I will also be getting a hair transplant with dr Alvi Armani
» (FUE) in March of 2009. And will continue with the above regime
» thereafter.
»
» Feel Free to ask any questions.

Yeh sure. Feel free to ask me anything here about dut or other treatments or hair transplants as well. The reason why I started this thread was to keep everyone informed along the way on my dutsteride treatment. To make notes of side effects and progress along the way.

I sent you an email. Confirm that you've received it.

Just Started Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) 2.5mg Daily

Today I will add to my regime ginko biloba. I didn't think I ever used this stuff before till I took a look at the bottle today. I used this stuff 4 yrs ago and I can tell you right first hand that it's excellent for focus and memory. I took it while I was taking body building supplements. Combine this with something like Nitrix. Nitrix is a vasodiolator. It increases the diameter of your veins and in return causes all the nutrients in your blood to travel at a very rapid pace. That's why they say try not to cut your self while on vasodiolators because it will bleed a lot for a long time. Ginko Biloba is a blood thinner to also increase the blood flow throughout the body. If you take any meds and/or supplements these two combined will transport them throughout your body immediately. Focus and memory is enhanced with Ginko Biloba. I hope it makes a difference with my loss of memory lately which I'm ASSUMING is from dutasteride.

Since adding Ginkgo Biloba I notice I'm much more focused and alert.

I recommend this stuff to ANYONE (as long as you don't have illnesses with easy and perfusive bleeding).

I'm sure it will only get better within time and will enhance the benefits of dutasteride as well.
