yeah me, i bought one of them bx3.4 hair helmet things and you had to use the oils when you used it, to be honest it had a slight effect nothing major though in terms of new growth, i would say if you used them indefinitely you may keep upto 5% of your hair for upto. 5% longer than you would if you didnt

I tried this for about a month and saw no improvement. I decided to stop when I began experiencing major shedding. At first I applied it 3 times a week and then switched to every night. Maybe it was too much.

I have switched to minox 4 times a day and am now starting to shed again.

Hi,

I don't think essentiel oils are a good way to stop your hair loss. I use to try hair force one from claude bell canada and it work great for me espacially for my dandruff. This product also stop my hair loss. Its a shampoo, very soft for the scalp. I tried Nioxin, rogain and revivogen but all three were too hard on my scalp. If you have other suggestion about shampoo, i would be happy to hear them!

The problem with essential oils(EO) is this: most EOs contain limonene; now, limonene is a good anti cancer agent, but limonene upregulates intra-cellular cAMP, and cAMP causes a premature exit of anagen phase in hair.. So this is bad.

Now, the goal is to find an EO low in limonene but otherwise good for hair. For example, thyme (type thymol) should be fine. And clove (stem) would be interesting or bay (in both the master compound is eugenol - an androgen receptor antagonist).

Exactly what the hell is an "essential oil", anyway? I've seen that term used occasionally in various places, but have no idea what it means. What makes an oil (ANY oil) "essential"? :-)

I'm going to assume you are getting your information from this regrowth.com write up: http://www.regrowth.com/hairloss-articles/growth_and_loss_of_hair_3.cfm

Where they state: Presumably, dihydrotestosterone inhibits energy production by keeping phosphodiesterase relatively inactive and by suppressing various protein (enzyme) synthetases. A relatively high concentration of cAMP may cause premature termination of the growing stages of hair follicles.

But if you read the study they reference (which is from 1970 I might add): http://journal.scconline.org/pdf/cc1970/cc021n13/p00901-p00924.pdf

It states this: "Testosterone carried in plasma reaches the hair follicles, where it is converted to 5a-dihydrotestosteronc, a tissue-active androgen. Since the hair follicles have sufficient 5a-reductase to catalyze this conversion, the intracellular level of TPNH is
presumed to be the rate-limiting factor at this step. The growing hair follicles appear to generate sufficient TPNH via the penrose cycle. Probably 5a-dihydrotestosterone but not testosterone is the tissue-active androgen, since adenyl cyclase in the hair follicles is
markedly inhibited by 5a-dihydrotestosterone but not by testosterone. Inhibition of adenyl cyclase decreases the intracellular level of cyclic AMP. This decrease of cyclic AMP, in turn, will create premature completion of the anagen state"

Thyme is one of the most effective inhibitors on PGD2; see all the news about how this relates to hair loss.

So Thyme is a great thing I think!

Yes, when I made the previous post, I knew from experience that thyme works but I did not know exactly why; now it seems that the mode of action is likely via cox-2 inhibition and, subsequently, pgd2.
The inhibitory compound is "carvacrol". Thyme of the type thymol carries some carvacrol, but oli of oregano is almost entirely carvacrol..
