What I've learned in 15+ years of using a hair replacement system (Hair Replacement Systems)

posted by USTom, 15.09.2012, 17:39

I think I am well suited to talk on the topic of whether or not a hair system limits what you can do in your life.

I do everything I ever wanted without thinking about my hair at all. I work out A LOT, I sweat, train in martial arts and do everything a very, very active person does with no problems. I don't have to do anything different and my hair looks normal all the time. This is a BIG deal to me as I would hate having to think about it or even not participate in certain activities because of my hair.

Having said that, it was not always the case. When I first started "wearing hair" I did have to think about it a lot. I still did everything but it was always in the back of my mind.

There are essentially two major considerations in my opinion that really influence how free you will be: the type of attachment to the scalp and the type of hair used in making your system.

For many years I used a liquid adhesive in the front (which is ideal for lace front systems which I wore for many years). This can create problems as I have learned, especially after a few days after your service visit as it will begin to get into the hair in the front of your system and it will begin to look "matted".

I no longer wear a lace front and now use a fantastic tape on the front of my hair system that is 100% worry free. Even two weeks after my haircut, the hair is still totally "dry" and that has made a HUGE difference. I don't have to do any maintenance at all now whereas before I had to do "touch ups" with adhesive every few days or so.

The second thing that has really made a difference in allowing me to completely ignore my hair is in switching to synthetic fibers. They look MUCH more real that "real human hair" and they don't get "strange" no matter how much you sweat, roll around on the ground, etc. This is because the right type of synthetic hair holds its shape better the first time you use it but more importantly even after months of use. I always found that sun really oxidezed the human hair and that it looked much worse after as little as two weeks.

This seems totally counterintuitive to me as human hair is always touted as the best thing but there really is no contest on this one. Synthetic looks better when you're just standing around and also when you are super active or in the water.
