That was me who made the comment that a hairpiece is like wearing an expensive suit.

Like an expensive suit, a hairpiece CAN look great, but an expensive suit will make you look like a bum if you sleep in it, shower in it, have sex in it, go to the gym in it, walk in the rain in it, go swimming in it, go camping in it, etc.

In short, a hairpiece like a suit or dress shoes, is only practical if you're a couch potato or a lounge lizard.

Now maybe hairpiece technology has advanced since I tried them, but I'd be VERY surprised if they haven't the same shortcomings they had when I wore them.

If a hairpiece is made of real hair carefully matched to your own hair, it will look the best but rapidly age and fail to match your real hair, which constantly grows and replenishes itself.

If you try to dye the piece to restore its color, it won't look natural because real hair is translucent to light, while dyed hair is less translucent.

The difference between dyed hair and real hair is the difference between a glass bowl filled with translucent marbles and a glass bowl filled with painted marbles.

Artificial hair fibers might be more durable than real hair, but will likely not behave like your real hair when it becomes disheveled and/or wet. Artifical hair fibers tend to keep a "set" even when wet, while your real hair changes depending on humidity, pressure, and other disturbances like wearing a helmet or hat.

A hairpiece is at its best while sitting on a couch under climate controlled conditions.
