What I've learned in 15+ years of using a hair replacement system (Hair Replacement Systems)

posted by Ahab, 24.08.2016, 20:23

Having it fall off was the least of my worries.

I tried a toupee, and I destroyed it my first weekend using it. And I went easy on it.

At the end of the first day, my piece was full of sand, dust, dried human and horse sweat, particles of hay, cobwebs, animal hairs (farm animals) from my outdoor activities.

The next day, salt spray off ocean waves and some fish and bait blood, slime, and an occasional fish scale, and more sand and sun to damage and bleach.

There's no way you can tell me that you cannot destroy any hair system by washing it every day and by exposure to strong sunlight every day.

In no time, the system's hair will turn a different color and different texture from your own hair and it will look strange.

At my rate of activity, I'd have to have a new one made every few days.

Impractical except for couch potatoes and lounge lizards.

It is possible that you might get away with it looking worn out because these days even men dye their hair and have weird hairstyles, so having two-tone hair might be mistaken for a fashion statement among the unwashed masses.

Whenever the public sees a ridiculous looking hairpiece, they probably think the wearer wants to look like that.

They might be seeing him on his way home from the beach or sports, or other outside work, and think the way it looks is intentional.

I tried wearing a sports helmet over my hairpiece. After a hot humid summer afternoon, when I removed the helmet my hairpiece had taken a set from the heat and humidity into an odd shape--I looked like the top of some chess piece. And there wasn't anyplace private to go with a hair dryer for me to try to wet and style the hair to look more natural when the crowd wanted to go out for drinks after the game. I said I had an appointment and couldn't go along.
